A tribe of Kobolds, remarkable for their dark grey scaled skin and their penchant for swimming live here. They live in an abandoned silver mine and have agreed a tentative alliance with the party. The party helped Chief Sootscale deal with a purple skinned intruder who was destroying the tribe from the inside, and he has remained grateful. He loaned a small group of Kobold warriors, lead by Captain Mikmek to the party to help guard Fort Stag when they needed it.

Sootscale was invited to join a new Humanoid nation lead by a Troll from the southern Narlmarch - but fortunately the party came along in the nick of time. They agreed to help build and Ale House and a Quay for the Kobolds, trade agreements and a treaty that gave Sootscale autonomy within Newhaven – but agreed a mutual defence arrangement.

Newhaven now treat Sootscale as a semi-autonomous Kobold reservation, that can make its own trade agreements. A woe betide any trader who does go up there looking for a deal, because contracts are all negotiated (on the Kobold side) by a Blue Kobold called Flim Flam who is a Cleric of Asmodeus, the diabolic patron of contracts.

As well as a mine and a quay for ore barges to dock, they sport an ale house which serves as a negotiating place, ale house, basic accommodation and a minor trade post for visitors. The Baron’s Head (as the ale house is known) is always dark and dimly lit and has a very limited selection of drinks – it only sells ale, because that is all Chief Sootscale will allow. There are meals – but you are advised to stick to the grilled fish - you never know what sort meat might be in any of the other dishes. There are always a lot of Kobolds about, and often they try to get customers involved in various dice games - be careful though because you are playing under Kobold Law - and if you get caught cheating or can’t pay your debts you will be subject to their law! Captain Mikmek is now in charge of security around The Baron’s Head and the quay side of Sootscale.

A final warning: All the prices, fines and penalties are a lot higher than you might expect!
